Early Beginnings

In 1923, Owen “O.B.” Duncan, an African American entrepreneur, founded the Cotton Club, a nightclub and entertainment venue located at 128 West 52nd Street (originally) and later at 641 Lenox Avenue in Harlem, New York City. The club was initially intended as a jazz orchestra venue, but it soon expanded its offerings to include live performances of all kinds. Over time, the Cotton Club became one of the most prominent nightclubs in Harlem during the Prohibition era.

Design and Layout
